UNI Green School Extracurricular Activities

An extracurricular activity that is both environmentally friendly and a way to commemorate your learning career

In today's society, schools are paying more and more attention to the education of environment and traditional crafts, hoping to enhance students' environmental awareness. In order to raise parents and students' awareness of sustainable fashion, we have a series of extracurricular activities about clothes upcycling. Give students' old school uniforms a new life and participate in making meaningful school uniform souvenirs. It is definitely the best choice for extracurricular activities for primary school students or any recommended extracurricular activities.
In a relaxed atmosphere, students can learn about sustainable fashion and, combined with educational activities, they can rethink and reshape the value of old clothes.

Extracurricular Activities Workshop Classification

Our school extracurricular activities welcome all kindergartens, primary schools, secondary schools and colleges to participate, and are mainly divided into two categories: UNI Green Workshop and Clothes Upcycling Workshop.

UNI Green Workshop

In the workshop, we will share with students the pollution issues in the fashion industry and the importance of sustainable development, and help them understand the value of environmental protection. Then, students can cut their old school uniforms and we will embroider their names on them to make them their own UNI Green graduation bear dolls.

Clothes Upcycling Workshop

The Upcycling workshop focuses on allowing students to transform their old school uniforms into meaningful and practical items, such as pen holders, cloth bags, wallets, etc. We will also provide relevant environmental protection knowledge so that students can understand the meaning of sustainable development in the workshop. In the end, a unique school uniform souvenir is made that is reused.
The above workshops can be completed in one session or in the whole school year. The workshops that are carried out in the whole school year are also called the "School Uniform Renovation Project" . In the project, students can design and make the finished products by themselves and learn more about the environment throughout the school year.

Why join our extracurricular activities?

What is the importance of clothes upcycling?

The clothing industry causes serious water and garbage pollution to the earth and is the world's second largest source of pollution. Every year, the carbon dioxide emitted by Hong Kong students making school uniforms is equivalent to a car circling the earth 1,200 times, and the amount of water used is enough for all Hong Kong citizens to drink for three years. If these school uniforms are thrown away directly, it will be a huge waste of environmental resources.
This workshop is not only for secondary school students, but also for primary school students. By participating in our extracurricular activities for primary school students, students can understand the problem of fashion pollution and its urgency, so that they can make changes in their lives and contribute to environmental protection. This school extracurricular activity can also promote cooperation among students, educate students on the value of second-hand clothes, and enhance their sense of belonging and pride in the school, because they know that the school uniform souvenirs they make are also very environmentally friendly and meaningful.

By participating in these events, schools can demonstrate their commitment to sustainable development, establish a good image, and educate the value and correct mindset of buying second-hand products.

  • Fostering a spirit of collaboration and creativity

Students need to work together to complete tasks in the workshop, which helps to improve their teamwork skills and enhance their sense of belonging to the school.

  • Memories

  • Supporting communities and vulnerable groups

Our project creates employment opportunities for women and the elderly, allowing them to use their skills and strengths (i.e. clothing and sewing skills knowledge) to regain their sense of personal value and confidence. In addition, mentally rehabilitated people from sheltered workshops will be invited to help with the production to promote social inclusion and cross-generational interaction.

Private extracurricular activities

Given that many parents have inquired about this workshop, it has now become a recommended extracurricular activity among parents. Therefore, in addition to school extracurricular activities, UNI Green also provides private workshops suitable for parents or friends to gather together. Only 10 people or more are needed to form a group to participate. We will provide participants with an equally interesting and meaningful experience and make meaningful clothes upcycling items.
